Heat Advisory in effect until 8 p.m.
NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard has a Heat Advisory in effect for the Western San Fernando Valley (zone CAZ372) until 8 p.m. PDT today, July 27. The advisory, first issued at 3:04 a.m., describes high temperatures between 97 and 107 and warm overnight conditions that will bring less relief than usual. The office notes a high risk for heat illness, particularly for the very young, the very old, people without air conditioning, and those active outdoors. NWS guidance includes drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned space, checking on relatives and neighbors, not leaving children or pets in unattended vehicles, and limiting strenuous activity to early morning or evening. The advisory area also includes Calabasas and Agoura Hills, the Santa Susana Mountains, the Santa Monica Mountains recreational areas, and the Santa Clarita Valley.

Ozone air quality alert through this evening
An Air Quality Alert relayed by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard on behalf of the South Coast AQMD remains posted for the Western San Fernando Valley for harmful levels of ozone (smog) pollution, running until 8 p.m. Monday. The alert states the highest ozone levels typically occur in the afternoon and early evening. AQMD guidance: when the Air Quality Index is "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" (orange), people with lung disease, older adults, people who are pregnant, children and those outdoors a lot should limit extended or intense outdoor activity; at "Unhealthy" (red) everyone may experience effects. To limit indoor exposure the alert suggests keeping windows and doors closed and running air conditioning or an air purifier rather than whole-house fans or swamp coolers. To reduce ozone formation, it suggests delaying gasoline-powered lawn equipment use, gas station trips and household chemical use until evening. Current and forecast levels are posted by AQMD.

Highways: no Caltrans closures listed in the West Valley
Today's Caltrans lane closure feed, last updated 7:05 a.m. on 07/27/2026, lists no lane, ramp or full closures on state highways within Woodland Hills, Canoga Park, West Hills or Chatsworth. Elsewhere in Los Angeles County, Caltrans continues to list long-standing full closures of State Route 2 (Angeles Crest Highway) between Islip Saddle at SR-39 and Vincent Gulch Road and of SR-39 north of Crystal Lake Road, both with no estimated reopening. Also listed for the region: a northbound I-5 shoulder-reconstruction lane closure between Hasley Canyon Road and Parker Road ending at 2:59 p.m. today, and a Route 1 northbound lane closure in Malibu between Las Flores Canyon Road and Carbon Canyon Road with no estimated reopening.
