Heat Advisory: Tuesday morning through Thursday evening

NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard issued a Heat Advisory covering the Western San Fernando Valley (zone CAZ372) along with Calabasas/Agoura Hills, the Eastern San Fernando Valley, the Santa Susana Mountains and other Southern California zones. The advisory runs from 10 AM Tuesday, August 18, to 8 PM PDT Thursday, August 20. The NWS describes high temperatures of 92 to 105, with most areas seeing peak heat Wednesday and Thursday, and overnight lows from the upper 60s to lower 70s at lower elevations and the mid 70s to lower 80s in the foothills and mountains. The agency notes hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses and that warmer-than-normal low temperatures will add to heat discomfort. NWS guidance in the alert: drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, check on relatives and neighbors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening. The alert adds that the advisory may need to be extended into Friday for parts of the forecast area, though there remains considerable uncertainty at this time.
