Heat Advisory in effect through Sunday evening
The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office has a Heat Advisory in effect for the Western San Fernando Valley (zone CAZ372) from 10 a.m. Saturday, August 8, until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 9. The advisory, issued August 7 at 9:11 a.m. PDT, calls for very warm temperatures of 90 to 100 degrees and notes that hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors, and suggests limiting strenuous activity to early morning or evening. For outdoor work, the advisory cites OSHA guidance on frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. NWS states that heat stroke is an emergency and to call 911, and that residents without air conditioning or shelter can call 211 for help locating shelter from the heat. The same advisory covers a wide portion of southwest California, including the Eastern San Fernando Valley, Calabasas and Agoura Hills, the Santa Monica Mountains recreational areas, the Santa Clarita Valley, and the San Gabriel Valley.

Caltrans lane closures: nothing listed on West Valley freeways; work continues on I-405 and US-101 to the east

The nearest listed work is in the eastern San Fernando Valley and Sepulveda Pass: pavement work closing 3 of 6 southbound I-405 lanes between Ventura Blvd and Mulholland Dr and 2 of 4 southbound lanes between Burbank Blvd and Ventura Blvd, with full closures of the southbound I-405 on-ramps from Ventura Blvd and Sepulveda Blvd, the northbound I-405 off-ramp to Getty Center Dr, and both the northbound and southbound US-101 connectors to southbound I-405 — all listed as ending at 4:59 a.m. August 10. Caltrans also lists a full closure of the southbound US-101 off-ramp to Woodman Ave for landscape work, expected to end at 3:01 p.m. August 8, and bridge work closing 3 of 4 southbound I-5 lanes at Sheldon St / Laurel Canyon Blvd, listed as ending at 5:59 a.m. August 8. Farther out, Caltrans lists a westbound SR-134 lane closure between I-5 and Victory Blvd/Riverside Dr for emergency work and a northbound SR-1 (Pacific Coast Highway) lane closure between Las Flores Canyon Rd and Carbon Canyon Rd for road maintenance, both with no estimated reopening time. The page directs readers to the LADOT news blog at ladot.lacity.gov/dotnews for an updated list of major road closures within the City of Los Angeles, and to Caltrans QuickMap for state highway closures including Pacific Coast Highway and State Route 27 (Topanga Canyon Blvd). No West Valley street closures could be confirmed from this source today.
