Extreme Heat Warning in effect until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office has an Extreme Heat Warning in effect for the Western San Fernando Valley (zone CAZ372) until 8 p.m. PDT Thursday, September 10. The warning, first issued September 9 at 8:09 a.m. and last updated in this cycle, covers temperatures between 92 and 108 degrees across an area that also includes Calabasas and Agoura Hills, the Eastern San Fernando Valley, the Santa Monica Mountains recreation areas, the Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley, and coastal zones. NWS states that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events and that humid conditions will add to heat discomfort, with heat peaking today for most areas. The office's guidance is to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, check on relatives and neighbors, and not leave children or pets in unattended vehicles, noting car interiors reach lethal temperatures within minutes.
