Weather: Extreme Heat Watch begins Friday
NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard has an Extreme Heat Watch in effect for the Western San Fernando Valley (zone CAZ372) and surrounding coast-and-valley zones, issued September 30 at 9:46 a.m. PDT. The watch runs from Friday morning, October 2, at 10:00 a.m. through Thursday, October 8, at 8:00 p.m. The NWS describes "dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 90 at the coast and 105 in the valleys," and notes that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. The agency adds that very hot temperatures are likely to continue into the second week of October, possibly requiring an extension of the product. NWS guidance with the alert: drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, check on relatives and neighbors, and do not leave children or pets in unattended vehicles. No other watches, warnings, or advisories were listed for the Western San Fernando Valley zone as of the 12:23 UTC update today.
